What is Tumbling/Milling? This hide has undergone a special finishing process called 'tumbling' or 'milling'. It's a mechanical process where the hides are gently rotated in large drums. This "massaging" of the leather fibres softens the hide significantly and creates the exceptional suppleness you feel. The process also highlights the leather's natural Grain (structure), resulting in a beautiful and authentic surface.
Japanese Precision in Measurement: A special and important detail of Japanese leather production is the measurement. In Japan, the measurement of each individual hide is not performed by the tannery itself, but by state-run 'measurement offices'. This unique system ensures a completely independent and precise determination of the hide's size. It gives you as a customer extra confidence that you receive exactly the quantity you pay for, measured by a neutral third party.
Pricing – Transparent and Fair: The price indicated for this hide is an approx. price, as the size of each individual hide naturally varies. Most importantly, the price shown is a maximum price per hide within the specified size range (approx. 28-36 sq ft). You pay only for the precise size (measured in sq ft by the state office) of the hide you choose. Your final price can therefore be lower than the indicated approx. price, but can not be higher.
