Chèvre Chagrin Sully is Goatskin from the French company Alran. The Alran tannery has been producing some of the finest and best goatskins for luxury brands for over 100 years. They are recognized for their premium goatskin and beautiful colors, dyed by hand. These goatskins are both chrome and vegetable tanned in a unique 23 step process which takes over 3 weeks to produce. This particular process involves a lot of labor to give the leather the beautiful grain, soft and supple feel and even color. Skins are easy to work with for e.g. small purses, bags or perhaps a writing pad.

Alran goatskin boasts numerous merits, encompassing durability, lightness, softness, and an opulent aesthetic. Its embossed texture and extensive array of colors render it highly coveted for leather jackets, and its heat-resistant and waterproof properties further contribute to its appeal.

Nevertheless, there are some drawbacks. The multitude of exceptional qualities results in a higher price point, making Alran goatskin more selective in terms of its customer base. The inherent softness of the leather also presents challenges in shaping, demanding a high level of skill and expertise from those working with goat skin. While Alran goatskin exhibits absorbent properties, its ability to absorb water is limited due to the treatment it undergoes during the tanning process. Fortunately, most stains can be addressed with ease by gently wiping with a damp cloth when the leather becomes soiled.
