Flat Creasing Iron F: The Indispensable Tool for Aesthetic Straight Lines

The flat creasing iron is the indispensable tool for marking your leather piece with an aesthetic straight line in the saddler's style.

Within the wide range of Regad creasing irons, the irons of the F family allow you to obtain flat and discreet decorative or functional creases. The creasing operation is essential. It allows you to tighten the leather fibers and remove excess glue. The hot creasing iron is reserved for high-end products for traditional manual edgings in the saddler's style.

Screwed onto a Regad handle, this electric creasing iron connects to an M3000 or M6000 power supply.

Creasing is a meticulous and sometimes rather lengthy manual finishing operation. To care for the leather piece and ensure the quality of the result, low heat settings (3 or 4) are recommended.

Creasing irons – also called double fillets – are easily recognizable by their two fillets: the guide fillet and the tracing fillet. The guide fillet is longer than the tracing fillet. It allows you to brace the iron against the edge of the leather and guide the tracing fillet during creasing.

The thickness of the tracing fillet is 0.3 mm (tested cold).

The resulting edge is more or less pronounced depending on the quality of the leather and the inclination of the iron during the operation. Adaptable to the artisan's uses, it can also be used in several passes, in a back and forth motion, or even in a standing position. To be perfectly successful, the creasing must be done smoothly and with proper positioning above the piece.

To choose your guide creasing iron, you need to define the desired useful edge distance:

  • F1: crease at 0.5 mm from the leather edge
  • F1.5: crease at 1 mm from the leather edge
  • F2: crease at 1.5 mm from the leather edge
  • F2.5: crease at 2 mm from the leather edge
  • F3: crease at 2.5 mm from the leather edge
  • F3.5: crease at 3 mm from the leather edge
  • F4: crease at 3.5 mm from the leather edge
  • F4.5: crease at 4 mm from the leather edge
  • F5: crease at 4.5 mm from the leather edge
  • F5.5: crease at 5 mm from the leather edge
  • F6: crease at 5.5 mm from the leather edge

The F2 creasing iron combined with the S05 smoothing iron form the ideal set for taking your first steps in hot edge finishing. Choose an M3000 or M6000/G6M power supply and a wood or cork handle, and you're ready to create your first leather goods.

Do you want to achieve creasing in more or less pronounced curves or on small leather goods? Choose a short creasing iron (F1 C, F2 C, F3 C...).

Good to know: all our creasing irons are also available in a left-handed version.
